Most plants contain natural poisons and some of them produce the fruits and vegetables we eat every day. More so, some fish contain toxins –and we pay just to eat them. No, they’re not mild poisons at all. Eating the wrong part of these products can lead to sudden death.
#1 Pufferfish
Pufferfish or fugu in Japanese is one of the most poisonous marine creatures. Yet, the dishes prepared from it are quite expensive and considered a luxury. In Japan alone, people consume 10,000 tons of pufferfish every year and the demand for worldwide outsourcing is increasing.
Only chefs with training certificates are allowed to prepare fugu dishes. Chefs are evaluated based on their cutting abilities and written test. The intestines, ovaries and liver of a pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin, which is actually 1,200 times deadlier than cyanide.
#2 Apples
An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Not quite. Since apples belong to the rose family, they contain natural chemicals that can be toxic to both animals and humans. But there’s no need to worry, an apple’s poison is safely contained inside its hard-coated seeds.
The seeds actually contain amygdalin which decomposes into hydrogen cyanide. You would have to chew and consume large amounts of seeds to get seriously sick and die. Even so, apples still have their outsourcing advantages – about 69 tons are grown and produced worldwide.
#3 Potatoes
Potatoes have become a part of American history. In fact, these vegetables are the center of most Western families’ daily diet. Aside from that, they are widely used by some of the best outsourcing companies in the fast food business – how do you think we get French fries?
Believe it or not, the stems and leaves of potatoes contain a type of poison called Glycoalkaloid. A very important reminder, don’t eat potatoes that already turned ‘green’. The green part means high concentration of poison which can lead to coma then death.
#4 Almonds
Almonds are said to have a lot of healthy benefits. In fact, almonds are essential ingredients to numerous recipes particularly in pastry kitchens. Famous chocolate companies, which outsource services, consider almonds as one of their bestselling factor.
Did you know that raw almonds originally contain a lot of cyanide? They have to be properly heat-treated to completely destroy the toxin and get rid of bacteria. Business solutions have been made prohibiting the sale of raw almonds and outsourcing requirements should be followed.
